Chardonnay
Surely this grape is one of the most widespread on the whole planet. Even so, the Chardonnay wine is very rare in Luxembourg and many consumers still ignore its presence in our region. This wine is however a great classic amongst white wines. It is very dry and neutral in taste, which makes it go well with a number of dishes and also in-between meals. The wine, left to improve in oak barrels for several months, will convince you with its slightly woody taste and a hint of vanilla (Even so, it should be said that it is not part of our philosophy to overload our wines with tannin!)
Caves Krier Frères offers this wine in their Domaine Privé de la Maison (Private Estate) range, presented in a dark Bordeaux bottle of 75 cl.
We were very proud when our 1998 vintage received the ”Mention Découverte” at the prestigious “Sélection Mondiales des Vins” in Montreal Canada in the year 2000.
AOP MOSELLE LUXEMBOURGEOISE:
Since 1935, the Luxembourg government has been controlling the quality of the wines produced in our Moselle Valley. First the wine producer has to make a formal request for each barrel he wishes to introduce. Then, after a lab analysis, the wine is tasted by a commission of 12 blindfolded members who evaluate the wine on a scale of 20 points.
· 12,0 – 13,9 points : AOP Marque Nationale
· 14,0 – 15,9 points : AOP MN – Vin Classé
· 16,0 – 17,9 points : AOP MN – Premier Cru
· 18,0 – 20,0 points : AOP MN – Grand Premier Cru
The official back label on the wine bottles is then a guarantee of the governmental quality control.
Chardonnay may obtain all these classifications.
DOMAINE PRIVE DE LA MAISON (The private estate):
Every year we select a certain area of our family estate in order to give it the best possible treatment. The strict measures we take on this land, limits the yield per hectare considerably (approximately –30% of the legally allowed quantity!). This crucial effort allows us to produce a wine with a very complex body. For us, the wines of this range represent the best possible quality of each vintage year, although respecting the philosophy of the typical Luxembourg wines. These wines are sure to seduce you!
The product range from the Private Estate is commercialized in a dark Bordeaux bottle of 75cl and has the benefit of a significant exclusivity: Only one barrel per grape-variety is selected each vintage for this special type of wine!
